Everything in the box
This Is What's Included
The straw is only part of it. Every piece in the kit was chosen so you can collect, filter, carry, and maintain clean water without improvising.
-
Filter Straw
The SENTRY-1 itself: 0.1-micron hollow-fiber membrane, 1,000-gallon rated life, threaded cap for 28mm bottles.
-
Carabiner Clip
Hangs the kit from a pack strap, belt loop, or car headrest. Always where you can reach it.
-
Backflush Syringe
A few pushes of clean water clears the membrane and restores full flow. Sixty seconds of upkeep, years of use.
-
1.5L Collapsible Reservoir
Fill it from any source, screw on the filter, and squeeze clean water into bottles or cups. Folds flat when empty.
-
Intake Extension Tube
Reach water in a stream, gutter, or bucket without kneeling at the edge or touching the source.
-
Quick-Start Card
Step-by-step instructions on one waterproof card, so anyone in the family can use it on the first try.
- 1× SENTRY-1 filter straw
- 1× 1.5L collapsible reservoir
- 1× backflush syringe
- 1× intake extension tube
- 1× carabiner clip
- 1× quick-start card
- Storage pouch
WHAT THE SENTRY-1 STOPS
What's Actually In The Water...
Bacteria
Physically blocked; far larger than the 0.1-micron pores.
- E. coli
- Salmonella
- Shigella
- Campylobacter
- Vibrio cholerae
- Legionella
- Coliform bacteria
Why it matters: Bacteria are the #1 cause of illness from untreated water after a disaster.
Protozoa & Parasites
Stopped at the membrane surface; cysts cannot deform through the pores.
- Giardia
- Cryptosporidium
- Entamoeba
- Cyclospora
- Cysts & oocysts
Why it matters: A single Giardia infection can mean weeks of illness and dehydration.
Microplastics
Fibers and fragments larger than 0.1 microns are captured.
- Fibers
- Fragments
- Beads
- Films
- Foam particles
Why it matters: Microplastics have been detected in most sampled rivers, lakes, and tap water.
Sediment & Silt
Mechanically trapped in the pre-filter and on the fiber surface.
- Sand
- Silt
- Clay
- Rust
- Soil
Why it matters: Sediment is in nearly every open water source and clogs cheaper filters fast.
Organic Debris
Caught on the fiber surface; cleared by backflushing.
- Algae
- Leaf matter
- Biofilm
- Pollen
- Insect fragments
Why it matters: Organic load is what makes flood and pond water taste and smell foul.
Cloudiness (Turbidity)
Reduced as suspended solids are removed.
- Suspended solids
- Fine particles
- Discoloration
Why it matters: Clear water is easier to drink, and cloudiness shields pathogens from other treatments.
Chlorine & Taste
Adsorbed by the activated-carbon stage.
- Chlorine
- Chloramine
- Musty or earthy taste
- Odors
Why it matters: Water people won't drink doesn't keep them hydrated.
FAQ
Can't I just boil water?
You can — if you have a heat source, fuel, a pot, and ten spare minutes per batch. In a real outage you often have none of those, and boiling does nothing for sediment, microplastics, or taste. The SENTRY-1 works in seconds with nothing else required. Keep both options; use the one you can actually reach.
What does it remove?
The 0.1-micron hollow-fiber membrane removes:
- 99.99% of bacteria (E. coli, Salmonella, cholera)
- 99.99% of protozoan parasites (Giardia, Cryptosporidium)
- 99.99% of microplastics
- Sediment, silt, and cloudiness
Does it expire sitting in my kit?
No. Stored dry, the membrane has no shelf life — it will work after years in a drawer or glovebox. The only rule: if you've used it, blow out the excess water and let it air-dry fully before storing so nothing grows inside. Keep the caps on.
How many do I need?
One per person, minimum. Two per person is the standard we recommend — it means everyone can drink at once at a water source, and a lost or damaged filter doesn't leave someone dry. For a family of four, that's the Home + Vehicles pack: eight for people, two for the cars.
Can kids use it?
Yes. Drawing water through it takes about the effort of a thick milkshake, so kids around five and up manage it easily. For toddlers, fill the reservoir, screw on the filter, and squeeze clean water into their cup or bottle.
I'm on city water. Do I really need this?
Most boil-water advisories aren't caused by disasters. The EPA counted roughly 4,000 in a single year, and about 80% came from water-main breaks and pressure loss — ordinary infrastructure failing. When it does, city households have no backup: no well, no creek, no rain barrel.
In the 2021 Texas freeze, 14 million people were under boil notices; after Helene, Asheville had no drinkable water for 53 days. A filter in the drawer turns "wait for the city" into "handled."
How do I keep it working?
Every 25–50 gallons, or whenever flow slows:
- Fill the syringe with clean water.
- Press it onto the mouthpiece end.
- Push firmly 3–5 times to flush trapped particles back out the intake.
Flow returns to normal. Between uses, shake out water, air-dry, cap both ends. That's the whole routine.
What if it's not for me?
Try it for 60 days. If you don't want it, send it back for a full refund — no forms, no questions. After that, it's covered for life: any defect, we replace it free.
